Why I hate consoles now.
I haven't bought/dont plan to buy any new gen consoles, and have'nt bought many games for for older systmes in months.
1) Too expensive.
Its not that I wouldn't pay $60 bucks for great content I'd never get tired of but, atleast to me, its all the same. I can find no real difference between shooter 1 and shooter 2, atleast not enough for me to warrent buying both. Add that to the fact that most games' main story compaigns last about as long as [insert something that lasts a really short time], and I just get fed up with it. (Dont mention stuff like multi-player, I'll get to that later).
2) Consoles are not Computers.
But they try to be anyway. If I want'ed to play online with my friends I'D GET ON THE INTERNET AND DO IT. I bought my console to play /CONSOLE GAMES/ not games that focus only on online battles and such (these games that have almost no main story compaign and rely on Online play). If I want to play a console game with my friends - I'd invite them over, thats why there are 4 controller slots. Also - these consoles that try to be all-in-wonders..How about this - I ALREADY HAVE A CD PLAYING DEVICE. Its fine that they play DVDs or whatever..but they want to jack up the price and all sort sof other stuff because it can play this, download that, do this, Grate that chess, slice this bread, etc, they can shove it - I'm sorry but they'll never beat devices that are actually made to do that stuff..My Console isnt a media center...my MEDIA CENTER is my media center.. I dont have 17 toasters in my kitchen, I dont need 17 CD players in my room. (I wouldn't be so mad if they just stuck on some support for this stufft..But its actually impeding on my game experience..)
3) Not enough game in my games.
You know what the most poipular game ever is? Tetris. And Tetris consists of Blocks falling on each other. Tetris still outs ells ALOT of new games on the market.. I would have never thought I'd see the day where I had to customize the customizations in a game. Give me support to change stuff on my car in a street racing game? Ok. Thats probably why I'm playing it. Give me all these little details to manage in a SimCity type thing..sure..Thats why I'm playing. But for Gods Sake sometimes I just want to pickup a fighter game or an action game and beat things up..Not have to micro-manage all the personal life details of my fighter..This sort of goes hand in hand with all the complexity people try to throw in games. I gotta hit a 48 button combination to just pass a ball in a football game..
Last but not least (the worst actually) - I am disgusted by some "gamers". "Dude, tes gme is soOo l337 lok at itz GraFiz, It rns at [so many] frmes per sec - it pWnz last yrs gmes". Yea..They fit more drops of water in the waterfall..Doesn't cover up the fact that I find most of these games NOT-FUN, and I cant stand to play them more than 3-4 minutes without wanting to throwup.
Maybe I'm a purist ruined by my old Super Nintendos and such..But I just dont understand where/when games lost their fun factor in exchange for fitting a few more pixels on the screen..

Another problem with consoles: Game patches and hot-fixes, or lack thereoff. Then again, it makes the nerf-bat much harder to swing!

1) The newer systems ARE too expensive. But the Gamecube/Ps2/Xbox are still a cheap route. Why are they so blasted expensive? It doesn't require an internet connection, you can do it by yourself, and some of the games are positively splendid. They also make for great "Real-life" LAN parties.
2)They don't jack up the price because they can watch DVDs. Give me proof of this. They simply don't. On most only the Xbox must you buy a kit. The Ps2 opened near the same price as the Xbox to be competitive. That's the only reason. Watching DVD's was a nice added bonus. Also, if you believe it's impeding, you should have never gotten a console, in the first place. You don't understand the true Console Gamer.
3)

First, thats why console gamers like fighting games. THEY GIVE YOU options. If you want mindless punching, hacking, slashing, try any other RPG. Thank you, come again.
Secondly, if you have to hit 48 buttons but it still only takes one button, and timing to throw a pass in any football game I know. Still fun, IMHO.
Lastly, if you are going to throw up, again, you never were and never will be a console gamer. Console gamers although I despise leetspeak, do converse over graphics. Even if the game ISN'T top notch, we like graphics, pure and true. Still, games are starting to go downhill in-case for graphics, but thats the way of the world. If you don't like, don't console game.
I remember the old days too. I own every system aside from a NEOGEO and a SEGA SATURN, and an impressible library for all. I love gaming with all my heart, so when I see a thread about "how console games are bad" and "comparing them computers" It angers me. There were never intended to be computers aside from the fact they can run graphics and have a hard-drive like an xbox. Before of the online world ever came to game consoles, we never got this "Consoles wanting to be computers" statement.
/Rant. In other words, if you hate it this much, simply don't play it. Period.

The X Box 360 and PS3 are going to end up costing you the price of a gaming PC.
Think about this...
Consol
About 10 games ($700) <-- that’s Bull Shit
Internet Fee
Misc. Items for you consol
It all adds up to being the same amount of a gaming PC.I would really like having one of these next genn consoles but with this price and what it adds up to... I could buy a nice computer or put it towards something important, like a vehicle. If you have the money to do this I dont see a problem in this. But if you don't and have other things on your mind this causes problems. ><

That's $70 a game! Where do you buy your games, because you're getting ripped off. Either that, or the cost of living in your area must be extremely high. New games where I live cost, at most, $50, and range as low as $20.
So, your actual game cost equasion should be more like 10 * (20~(max rate for area)).
For my area, it comes out to $200~$500, and would almost certainly NOT make it to that $500 mark, as I almost never spend that much on a game. Guild Wars is an exception here, just so you know. There are ALWAYS exceptions.

Well,
:General:
I've always enjoyed single-player on a console way more than a computer.
I've always hated the idea of always having to improve this and that, download this, install that, etc etc. It gets very tiring after a time, and it takes time. While a computer is completely customizable, a console is much more of a default and neutral game source to ALL players.
:Multiplayer:
That is unless you decide to jump on XBOX Live, or PS2 Online, and you have a very horrible connection.
:Multiplayer:
Another good thing about the console is that there are a lot less hacking cases (Or none at all) and cheating in games. I mean, it's pissy enough to wake up and find that your computer is infected by a Trojan because some ass wants to make your life hell. It's even worst when you go play a game like CS or some other FPS and your getting owned from speed hacking aimbotting maniacs.
:Computer:
When I'm on my computer, I feel very vulnerable to hackers and whatnot. I hate the feeling that I'm completely powerless to stop these hackers by myself, unless I download a virus-protection program. But those sometimes cost money too. So it all ends up stacking up, not only to BUY ALL THESE HIGH-PRICED GAMING ITEMS TO KEEP UP WITH THE INCOMING GAMES, but to also BUY THE GAMES, and in some cases PROTECT YOURSELF FROM HACKERS.
:Console:
Everybody is given the same type of console. You can always add memory, or purchase misc. items for your console. I feel a lot less vulnerable on the console, because of it's basic default system. You buy the game, you load it, you play it. You don't have to worry about purchasing all these high-priced graphic cards, and all of the fancy overpriced items that a $50 game requires. All in all, the only thing you really have to worry about is the TV and it's graphic displaying properties.
So all in all, I enjoy playing on the Console a lot more than the computer.
Oh and by the way Supremacy.
10 games don't cost $700 bucks.
Most of the great games are roughly $50 bucks.
But the great games still come in the $30-50 price ranges too.
So I doubt you'd be spending $70 on 10 games...

Most 360 games, and new generation games are going to cost 59.99 so you are looking at 640-650 dollar range. Even then I remember buying Turok when it first came out for $74 or so. Even Southpark for N64 was $64.64.
I like my PC games costing $0.00

Actually, I had the oppurtunity to buy WoW for on 20$. And as for free games, sure, go ahead and download your games on your computer. I hope y'all enjoy the rampant viruses that you'll encounter and constantly reformatting your hard drive. And remember kids, with a modded console that has a hard drive (Xbox that means you) you can download games for free just the same as you'd be able to do through filesharing or whatever methods you'd choose.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that if you used the same methods to obtain your games on your CPU and your console, the console becomes cheaper.

Yeah, the era of innovative game concepts is in the past ... Truly original concepts still happen nowadays but have become a rarity.
Today it's all about the graphics engine and character models ... Quake 4 is essentially the same game as Wolfenstein 3D which came out 13 years ago.
BTW - there is one genre where consoles come out on top over PCs ... that's the PvP fighters like the Tekkens, the Virtua Fighters and the Dead or Alive series.

I agree, gaming is getting more expensive but the reason is that they're getting more expensive to make.

Okay, you're just being silly. Online play is a PLUS. Not a minus, it's OPTIONAL in most cases. If i'm playing the wonderful console game that is Haloa nd it didn't have online play i'd be very sad. I can't invite my friends over EVERY time, online is convinent because I don't need to give anyone rides, and I can jump in for a game before dinner or before sleep.

Dude, what you're saying again in most cases is optional. Tony Hawks Pro Skater has optional creator mode. So does the Madden series. You're being silly again. and a game with a 48-button-combination for a pass? Show me a link, you'r exaggerating. In 100% of the cases you press 1 button to pass a ball to whoever.

Okay, sure the fanbase may be a little stupid. But open your eyes! Every fanbase for anything is stupid. A good chunk of the people who play Guild Wars are dumb. They're immature and it's just unpleasant. But I have no idea what you're talking about how this ruins consoles.

I paid $30 - and will get playtime out of it for many months, with new content even. Vs. a $60 console game I'll throw away or give to the homeless after MAYBE 10 hours..
Did, and X-2. X was ok, X-2 was a waste of my time, played whole game, and all "bonus" stuff (like the 100 floor tower) in less time it it took to go through X's normal story.

I am the true console gamer, I dont understand the: Fanboy, Fanatic, Idiot with too much money, and little techy kid.
The stuff required to playback DVD's costs more...An easy example is the XBox that didnt come with that stuff. You saw the cost when you had to buy that stuff. Its hard for you to judge the cost when it comes in the system.
Quote:
costs less then good graphic card
|
I can play all the games I care about on a $50 card..even guild wars here.
This goes with my other statement about how stupid games try to win me with how many waterdrops they can fit on the screen..when the game simply ISNT FUN.
General Things to say to many people:
- I know about used and second hand games..and waiting for them to get old..Generally there not even good enough to wait for.
- Internet on your console is just a Big Business venture to suck more money out of you for service that is far from effective, and pales in comparison to real internet. You can keep your Xbox live..I got Cable Internet live >_>
- I DO PLAY CONSOLES. And like certain games..its just the general market is past me now..They wanna release a game thats really just an old engine with newer fancier models and graphics, with new BS options like changing their clothes to make you think its so cool and new. Did you know that once a game engine is made (like the HL engine, or unreal engine) They'll work off that engine for YEARS. Your playing "new fancy" games that run off engines created before some of you younger people were born..Just with newer fancier looking characters and scenery, and new options like a few more weapons, or different clothes. Its still the same game to me..same fun factor..not paying $50 for it..sorry. They say "creative" now is sticking some characters you normally wouldnt see on a game in there..BS. Creative doesnt have to be new to me..creative is taking a design and molding it into something unique. When 100 WWII games come out..and you decide to release a Civil War game to "mix it up" - THATS NOT CREATIVE. Thats just editting the scenery alittle, and putting in a different story line on the same game I played 5 years ago.
EDIT: I can already argue against the rebuttal I know I'll get about the above statement. You'll say "It takes alot of time to design an engine, so they work off the same one for awhile"...No really? I didnt ASK for 500 games of the same genre to come out every DAY almost. Take your time and make the games better. But that cant happen can it..because they know theres fanboys and idiots that will eat up ANY garbage they come out with - so they can just line their pockets.
